June 2014 Student of the Month

Claire Rong
Claire started with AASD in September of 2013, after years of watching her older brother Ethan train. No has a bigger smile than Claire when she trains, and her intensity is unmatched.

Claire enjoys all aspects of martial arts, however she really excels at forms and technique. Sifu Rick is always using Claire to demonstrate forms in class so others may be inspired.

We would also like to salute Claries’ parents Alan & Susan for all their support!

Competition — Noun —

The activity or condition of competing.

Competition is something that will always be part of your life and it can be the most fun and educational thing you do. You will have to go head-to-head with others and sometimes it will be healthy fun; other occasions may be hard or even painful. No matter what competition you face always perform with grace, good intent and good sportsmanship. Win or lose, keep this in mind and you will always be a winner!

Here are 3 things you can do to be a great competitor:

  1. Learn. Weather you are preparing to compete in an athletic or academic event make sure to pay attention and learn from your coaches and/or teachers.
  2. Practice. When not in class or at practice, make sure to set time aside to study and refine your abilities.
  3. Respect. Regardless of the outcome during your competition, always respect the process and your competitor.
